Bablake Junior School

VE-Day 2005Your child has only one opportunity
for a good education, and our aim is
to provide it.

What do we offer your Child?
The opportunity to be treated with respect as an individual and to receive an excellent education within a secure, stimulating, positive and happy environment.
 The Curriculum
A full and varied curriculum, taught in an enjoyable and friendly atmosphere. Does far more than satisfy the requirements of the National Curriculum. Specialist teaching increases as children progress through the school but the Form Teacher always takes English and Maths to ensure stability and continuity.

Happy FacesChildren are not only encouraged to produce work to the best of their ownability, but also to enjoy and extend themselves in all areas of school life.

Our Curriculum consists of:
The Core Subjects: English, Maths, Science.
Plus the Foundation Subjects: History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, French (all year groups), Physical Education, Religious Education, Swimming, Information & Communication Technology (ICT), and Personal & Social Education (PSE).

Use ComputersInformation & Communication Technology
was used to enhance the curriculum, with modern computers networked to all classrooms. OurSchool Library has now been moved into a corridor but is still organised on similar lines to a Public Library, with computerised issuing. Children have access to this, and are encouraged to take books home to continue their studies.
U-11 Soccer Team Sport:
Sport and PE are integral to the curriculum and the sports programme and fixtures are arranged with a view to every pupil being able to represent a school team. Skills that are transferable to many sports are taught in a progressive manner through a pupil's career. All of our teams are taught by qualified coaches and are consistently successful.

Bablake Junior School are currently the U11 and U10 county cricket champions and we recently second in the Coventry Schools Cross-Country event. Our girls won the Princethorpe Hockey Tournament and our U10 football team were runners up in the Foremarke Hall Tournament and in the Coventry Schools 4-a-side Competition.

We have excellent sporting facilities, both on and off site:
On Site: Sports Hall, Gymnasium, Swimming Pool, Tennis & Netball Courts, Games Field. Off Site: Astro-Turf Hockey, Soccer and Cricket Pitches.

Children can take part in Football, Hockey, Netball, Basketball,
Short Tennis, Swimming, Cross-Country, Rounders, Cricket,
Athletics and Dance. House Competitions are regular features of the school calendar.

Spinney SurveyNature Area A great deal of work has been done to create a conservation 'Nature Area' in the Spinney overlooking Naul's Mill Park, and we are very proud of this wonderful facility. A small group of Spinney Rangers supervise it, and guide visitors to interesting features.
Play ChessExtra-Curricular Activities:
We believe extra-curricular activities play a very important role in the life of the pupil and the school. These may vary from year to year and term to term, but the following activities are typical examples from the last couple of years:

Soccer, Hockey, Netball, Swimming (Year 3), Kayak (Year 6), Short Tennis, Basketball, Gym, Cricket, Golf. Computers and computer games, Indoor Games, Craft, Chess, J.A.M. Club, Choir, Keyboard, Recorders, Percussion Group, Maths, Spinney, Spanish, Brass Group, Orchestra, Climbing, Art, Strings Group.

The scope of activities reflects the enthusiasm and commitment of the staff, who offer these clubs in their free time.

Play MusicMusic:
We have a strong musical tradition and a flourishing choir. Many pupils learn instruments and play together in the strings, recorder and brass groups and the orchestra. Regular performances ensure music is an integral part of school life.

Sail at CalshotEducational Visits

Educational visits have a significant role, and these vary from day trips (e.g. Birmingham Sea Life Centre, Umberslade Farm, Warwick Castle, Lunt Roman Fort, Worcester Commandery Civil War Museum) to extended visits for each year group. In 2006-2007, residential visits are planned to the following centres:
Year 4: Easter Trip to Dunfield House, Kington.
Year 5: Autumn Trip to Kingswood Activity Centre, Staffordshire.
Year 6: Easter Course at Calshot Activities Centre, (Hampshire County Council).
Climbing at CalshotSpecial Needs
Dyslexia has a high profile at Bablake Junior School. We work closely with the Dyslexia Institute to cater for the needs of dyslexic children. A Dyslexia Institute tutor gives classes within the school on two days per week.

All new pupils are assessed for their level of attainment in reading and spelling. If there is a difficulty with literacy skills, parents are approached and the school's action plan for the child is negotiated. All children follow the mainstream curriculum, and can be withdrawn for lessons in a small group where necessary.

We have a full time Support Teacher who is qualified to help dyslexic children, and liason between her and the child's Form Teacher is very strong.

Very able children are also helped and guided so that they too can further excel.

We may not have all the answers butwe have the will to look for them in an effort to help your child fulfil his or her potential and be happyat school.
Uniform
We have a prescribed school uniform that both we and existing parents feel is acceptable. By satisfying the school dress requirements we feel that children and parents develop a sense of pride in their school.

At Bablake Junior School our aim is to combine the best of traditional teaching methods with the very best of modern attitudes. Education should be varied, exciting, fun and worthwhile - never boring or dull.
